It’s easy to take liberty for granted, when you’ve never had it taken from you. This nation will remain the “Land of the Free” only so long as it is the “Home of the “Brave”. A great many thanks to the men and women of our United States Armed Forces. Always remember, freedom is never free.
My family and I moved to Alaska September 1995, complements of Uncle Sam. We’ve dedicated 23 plus years to the United States Air Force and are extremely indebted to have served.
I was first introduced into archery by my brother August 1996. Initially, I did not have the opportunity to shoot much because of my commitment to the military. Like many, I spent much of my time away from home…however, not all time was lost; on occasion, I was afforded the good fortune to bow hunt and be successful to harvest several great animals.
Since I’ve been involved with archery, I’ve committed several years of my personal time with Alaska Fish & Game teaching Bow Hunter Education and the National Archery in the Schools Program. I’ve supported various archery organizations and local archery clubs. When possible, I volunteer much of my time to both the military and civilian archery communities and to the Boys Scouts of America teaching youth archery.
As an ABA team member, I plan to be a positive component in supporting the association’s purpose, policies, and the rights to bow hunt in our great state. Your concerns will be significantly appreciated for our continuous success… |

I moved from Ohio to Alaska in 2002. I have been into archery for most of my adult life, be it hunting or target shooting.
I have been a member of Black Sheep archery for about 7 years, as well as a member of the Alaska Bowhunters, Northwest Archer’s, N.F.A.A, Alaska State Archery Association and I am also a N.A.S.P archery instructor. I always do my best to promote bow hunting in Alaska.
May your hunting season be a safe & rewarding season!
For all of us here in Alaska, or wherever your hunting trips may take you, until next time, please be safe.

Raised in Pennsylvania, I made my first bow kill in 1952 at age 7. I have been hunting with and shooting a bow ever since but became truly addicted in the late 70s. I have hunted big game exclusively with a bow since 1980. I am an orthopedic surgeon practicing in Anchorage since 1973. I have taken at least one of every big game species in North America (28) with a bow, most of which are in the Pope and Young record book. I have hunted Africa and Asia three times each with a bow. I am a director of the National Bowhunting Education Foundation and a master instructor of the IBEP course in Alaska. As Legislative Vice-president of The ABA I hope to increase bowhunting opportunities and reduce or minimize unnecessary regulations. I welcome your input. |

Until moving here with the Army in 2005 I called Rochester, Minnesota home. It was here that I learned the art of bowhunting and through many mentors and friends was able to harvest my first whitetail. Bowhunting has consumed a large portion of my young life thus far and 2009 will bring with it my 18Th year with bow in hand. My wife Anne and I recently had our first son Loden and I am anxiously awaiting my chance to show him the great outdoors I am hopeful he will share my passion for this sport. I joined the Board of Directors to ensure that I was doing what I could to preserve and further the sport of bowhunting in Alaska. I look forward to working with the membership to bring bowhunters of all backgrounds together so that as a unified voice we can share the challenges and addicting nature of bowhunting in Alaska.

I would like to introduce myself to all of you. My name is Gary Keller, I grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland and in 1994, I enlisted in the Air Force as a police officer. In 1995, I was lucky enough to transfer to Alaska (Elmendorf AFB). It didn't take long for me to realize that Alaska is where I want to call home. I separated from the Air Force in 1999 and my wife, Michelle, and I settled down in south Anchorage. I grew up as an avid hunter, but it wasn't until I came to Alaska that bowhunting became a real passion of mine. For me the challenge of bowhunting is like none other. I have been lucky enough to have taken several animals here in Alaska and in the lower 48. The feeling of taking these animals with my bow was truly rewarding. For me the greatest reward is being able to take my bow into the woods or on the tundra and given the chance of pursuing an animal. This is where I look forward to serve the ABA and fellow hunters in the fight to preserve not just our bowhunting right, but all hunting rights.

I was born and raised in Montana. My dad started me out bow hunting at the ripe old age of three. Nothing was safe. You should have seen the look on moms face when I brought home my first bow kill at the age of 5; a gopher. From then on bow hunting became my addiction.
My wife Char and I moved to Alaska in 2007 with our six kids in tow. Char and our kids Jared, Makenzy, Brooks, Savanah, Raigan and Boex all have hunted and been involved in hunting their whole lives.
In 2008 my partner Tony Noe and I started an Archery pro shop in Wasilla called Screamin’ Eagle Archery. What a great experience it is to work with men, women, and kids who are pursuing the sport of archery and bow hunting; as is working with the ABA in continuing the fight for our rights to hunt. I think as a team we will be able to make a difference in bow hunting here in Alaska; not any one of us can do it alone. So please join us in promoting bow hunting in Alaska, for you, your kids, and theirs to come. Shoot straight and stay afflicted!

I was raised on a cattle ranch in Northern California. I was raised hunting and even though no one around me bow hunted I was fascinated by archery at a young age. I got my first bow at age 8 and with the help of Fred Bear's Archer's Bible I taught myself to shoot. I took my first deer with a bow at 13. Since that time I have patterned my life around bowhunting. I changed colleges from California to Oregon so I could hunt the month of September for elk and deer. I hunted on Prince of Whales Island in 1991 and loved it. In 1997 I moved to Alaska because I knew I could never afford to hunt Brown or Grizzly bears and I was tired of never drawing a sheep or Goat tag. In the last 18 years I've hunted in over 15 states and taken over 40 animals that exceed Pope & Young Minimums. All of my hunts in the US have been self guided, the only guided hunt I've been on was for Free Range Cape Buffalo. I'm a member of multiple hunting organizations and hopefully I can help the ABA in it's goal to better archery and bowhunting in the State of Alaska and to Bowhunting in General.

I was raised in California, and moved to Alaska in the spring of 1995. I have been a bowhunter for most of my life. I am a member of the ABA, NFAA, ASAA ,SCI, Pope and young and the NRA. I am a IBEP Master Instructor. I am serving currently as the president of the Juneau Archery club. I own and operate Archery Outfitters here in Juneau. I enjoy getting kids and new comers started in archery and off on the right foot. Giving back to help spread a sport that will become a life time passion for many. Target shooting or bowhunting it does not mater. Getting started and then taking the path you choose and sharing it, enjoying it, just doing it. That's what it's all about. I look forward to working with the ABA to help preserve and expand bow hunting opportunities here in Alaska. The ABA truly cares and is actively working for all bowhunters interest. |

Like most of you, Ken and I have a passion for bow hunting. There is nothing we like better than to be hunting. As a young boy Ken roamed Ohio farmlands with bow in hand looking for that whitetail deer. During my youth I freely roamed the hills and forests around my home. After Ken was discharged from the Army in 1973 he loaded up his bow and arrows and headed to Alaska to fulfill his dreams of bow hunting the greatest place on earth. I in turn was busy raising my kids in Oregon, in 1990 the draw of Alaska became to strong so I too loaded up a truck, with kids in tow, and headed for the last frontier. Ken’s years of hunting adventure has lead to all corners of Alaska, Africa, New Zealand, Canada, and many of the lower 48 states. While my bow hunting career began in 2001 Ken and I have had many great hunts together, from Alaska to New Zealand.
As you know hunting success never comes easy with the bow, some of my most memorable successes include Moose, Big Horn Sheep, Elk, Bear, and Red Stag. Ken’s arrows have harvested a Sheep Grand Slam, Polar Bear and 24 of the North American 28. Combined Ken and I are members of many outdoor organizations, SCI, FNAWS, Grand Slam, NRA, Pope & Young, Golden North Archery Association, and the ABA. Like our passion for hunting we are always looking for ways to protect our’s and all hunter’s rights to hunt. As your Northern Director it is our hope that we can contribute to the Alaska Bowhunter’s Association’s mission and promote bow hunting. |
