Welcome to Alaskan Bowhunters!

ALASKAN BOWHUNTERS RESPOND TO CARIBOU SLAUGHTER

As facts are gathered concerning the apparent wanton waste of 120 caribou killed and left to rot on the tundra concerned parties are compelled to take action. These parties are diverse and represent a cross section of the Alaskan Populace. Imagine the Humane Society coupled with hunting organizations to demand justice. The reason for this common relationship is simple: the blatant disrespect, abuse, and theft of a public resource affects everyone concerned with wildlife, conservation, due process and the Alaskan Constitution. Though each concerned party may have their own motivation to see that justice is served the fact remains that Alaskans want action on this issue.

The Alaskan Bowhunters Association has put forth considerable effort to ensure that we represent legal, ethical, and moral activities. It is extremely important that Alaskans understand that the individuals involved in this atrocity were not hunters, sportsman, or even subsistence gatherers. When they made the fateful decision to overharvest and abandon XXX caribou from the Western Arctic Caribou herd they became something entirely different. Regardless of any ethnic background, belief, or origin these individuals participated in illegal and immoral acts. If it is agreed that these acts are criminal then it should be universally understood the involved are criminals and subject to due process of the law.

The Alaskan Bowhunters are adamant in promoting due process for guilty parties in this matter. We have offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those who participated in this act. With a case of this magnitude we must do our part to ensure that the right precedence is set. If this case is handled in any manner that offers exception for unique circumstances it could, in fact, create a benchmark that allows special considerations for similar situations in the future.

We encourage our membership to voice their opinion in this manner to public officials which may have influence in this matter. Impress upon them that Alaska needs to adhere to due process without deviation. It is vitally important that the outcome in this matter conveys adequate justice.

The elected officials of the Alaskan Bowhunters Association will be monitoring this situation closely and do what we can to ensure justice is served.
